Councilmember Klein Announces Creation of Landlord Engagement Action Network on West Side

For Immediate Release
July 24, 2014

For More Information:
John Ivanic, City Council, 645-6798

Councilmember Zach Klein and Homes on the Hill Community Development Corporation are launching the Landlord Engagement Action Network (LEAN) program to promote responsible property management, support housing stabilization efforts, and provide helpful resources for landlords, tenants, and neighborhood residents on the West Side of Columbus.

“The LEAN program will foster an open dialogue between landlords and tenants while educating both parties about their rights and responsibilities,” said Councilmember Klein, chair of Council’s Public Safety & Judiciary Committee. “The aim of the program is to bring people together to resolve conflicts and build stronger neighborhoods.”

The LEAN program will host networking and informational events for landlords, tenants, and residents, including seminars on topics like tenants’ rights, best practices in property management, and renter and property owner responsibilities.

LEAN is a product of discussions between Councilmember Klein, Homes on the Hill, and area leaders that centered on finding ways to engage landlords, tenants, and neighbors in the effort to encourage responsible and harmonious property management on the West Side. The program will debut at the South Central Hilltop Blockwatch’s National Night Out festivities at 6pm on August 5th.

Other upcoming events include a “Know Your Rights and Responsibilities” education seminar on September 4th and a LEANworking (networking) event on October 15th.
