John Ivanic, City Council, 645-6798

Councilmember Zach M. Klein, a longtime NCAA Women's College Basketball referee in the Mid-American, Atlantic Coast, Big East, Atlantic 10, and other major conferences, is thrilled that the NCAA has chosen Columbus to host the 2018 Women’s Division I Basketball Championship. Klein traveled to Indianapolis last week as a member of the Local Organizing Committee that made Columbus’ final pitch to host the event, which is expected to bring more than 40,000 fans to the city, account for the reservation of 14,000 hotel room nights, and generate an estimated $18-$20 million in visitor spending.

“Columbus is a major league city and the NCAA recognizes that our community is prepared to host an unforgettable Women’s Final Four,” said Councilmember Klein, chair of Council’s Public Safety & Judiciary Committee. “We have a world class arena, easy access to hotel rooms, and high quality restaurants and entertainment options. I look forward to welcoming college basketball fans from around the world to Columbus.”

Columbus City Council extends its congratulations to Executive Director Linda Shetina Logan and the entire team at the Greater Columbus Sports Commission, which worked to bring the Women’s Final Four to Columbus.
