For More Information:
John Ivanic, City Council, 645-6798
Councilmember Shannon G. Hardin, chair of the Public Service and Transportation
Committee, joined Centennial High School students and Northwest Side residents to
celebrate the completion of a sidewalk installation project near the school. The
sidewalks were requested by students and civic leaders to increase safety along
Godown Road.
“This
project is a great example of how neighborhoods shape infrastructure
improvements and capital expenditures in Columbus,” said Councilmember Hardin. “Students
discussed the need for sidewalks with councilmembers, all of whom listened,
agreed, and have invested in this neighborhood.”
Columbus City Council passed an
ordinance to construct the sidewalks on both sides of Godown Road from
Francisco Road to Bethel Road in July 2014. In 2013, the city installed flashing warning
signals to slow motorists traveling in the area.
“The new sidewalks are a much-needed
improvement that will help keep students and pedestrians safe on the Northwest
Side,” said John Elhers, president of the Northwest Civic Association. “We are
grateful to Columbus City Council for approving the sidewalk project and we will
continue to work with the city to make the Northwest Side an even better place
to live.”
Centennial High School student ______
said the sidewalks will make the walk to and from school safer for students.
