Manufacturing Company to Invest More than $50 million to Expand Operations
A large South Side manufacturer plans to expand its only
U.S. facility by increasing its current square footage by 65,000 square feet,
adding additional machinery, equipment, and new jobs, signaling its continued
commitment to the South Side. Hirschvogel Incorporated, one of the
largest automotive suppliers in the world for steel and aluminum forging
currently has 322 employees and plans to hire 37 new full-time employees.
The company is seeking a 75%, 10-year Enterprise Zone Agreement and a six-year,
60% Job Creation Tax Credit. City Council will consider the request at
tonight’s meeting.
“We are proud to announce yet
another major investment on Columbus’ South Side,” said Mayor Michael B.
Coleman. “This investment is important to the economic future of our city as it
provides our residents with more high-quality jobs to support their families.”
Hirschvogel also has operations in India, Brazil, Poland
and China. The Columbus operation manufactures warm and cold forgings and
steel forming for North American automotive suppliers and for the original
equipment manufacturers. Because of strong competition, Hirschvogel
needed to expand its operations and considered leaving Columbus.
“Hirschvogel is an important employer in our city and I’m
very happy to have them commit to Columbus for many more years to come,” said
Councilmember Michelle M. Mills, chair of the Development Committee. “We
have a lot of economic development momentum on the South Side and this
announcement will help us continue the great work that has already begun in the
neighborhood.”
Council will also consider requests from two other
companies seeking expansion opportunities in Columbus:
-Ringside Search Partners and Ringside Temps , a
professional search and consulting firm that specializes in permanent,
temporary and project staffing, is seeking a Downtown Office Incentive of
five-year, 50%. Ringside plans to create 32 new full-time permanent
positions and retain 14.
-Lextant Corporation, a research and design
consulting services firm, plans to create 40 new full-time permanent jobs and
retain 45 full-time jobs. Lextant is seeking a Columbus Downtown Office
incentive of 50% for five years.
Together, the three companies plan to bring 109 new jobs
to Columbus.
