Councilmember Hardin, Centennial High School Students Unveil New Sidewalks

Councilmember Shannon G. Hardin, chair of the Public Service and Transportation Committee, joined Centennial High School students to celebrate the completion of a sidewalk installation project near the school. The sidewalks were requested by students and civic leaders to increase safety along Godown Road and cost $500,000.

“This project is a great example of how neighborhoods shape infrastructure improvements and capital expenditures in Columbus,” said Councilmember Hardin. “Students discussed the need for sidewalks with councilmembers, all of whom listened, agreed, and have invested in this neighborhood.”

Columbus City Council passed an ordinance to construct the sidewalks on both sides of Godown Road from Francisco Road to Bethel Road in July 2014. In 2013, the city installed flashing warning signals to slow motorists traveling in the area.

Councilmember Hardin also discussed with the students the City of Columbus’ more than $33 million in street resurfacing and repair projects in this year.   Tonight, Conuncilmembers will consider Ordinance 0644-2015, sponsored by Public Service & Transportation Committee chair, Hardin, to allow the city to enter into a $12,019,918.00 contract with Strawser Paving Company, Inc. for work on 109 streets and the construction of 688 ADA curb ramps and replacement.   Additional reconstruction projects will begin later in the year.
