Columbus Neighborhoods Come Together To Support National Night Out
Neighborhoods throughout Columbus are joining forces with
communities throughout Ohio and the nation for the 32nd Annual
National Night Out crime and drug prevention program.
National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association
of Town Watch (NATW) nationally and locally by the Columbus Division of Police.
Columbus police
officers will be participating in the annual event, which will be held tonight
from 5-9 p.m. More than 150 community events are planned throughout
Columbus including live music, porch light vigils, cookouts and family events.
Citizens are encouraged to contact their local Blockwatch leaders or community
liaison officers to find events in their communities.
“If you’ve never
participated, it’s a great event to get to know others in your community and
have fun,” said Councilmember Zach Klein, chair of City Council’s Public Safety
Committee. “And, it’s a great opportunity for our law-enforcement officers to
strengthen their relationships in the community and build new ones and keep
Columbus as the best place to live, work, play and raise a family.”
National Night Out is designed to promote
police-community partnerships; heighten crime, drug and violence awareness; generate
support for anti-crime efforts; and build neighborhood unity by sending a message
to criminals that neighborhoods are
fighting back. Take an active stance
against criminals and join your friends and neighbors in the fight against
crime.
NATW is a
nonprofit, crime prevention organization that works in cooperation with
thousands of crime watch groups and law enforcement agencies throughout the
country. Since 1981, NATW has been dedicated to the development, growth
and maintenance of organized crime and drug prevention programs nationwide.
