Statement from Council President Shannon G. Hardin on Violent Protestor at CPD Headquarters
[COLUMBUS, OH] The following statement can be attributed in
full, or in part, to Columbus City Council President Shannon G. Hardin:
“As tensions flare across the Nation, Columbus is not immune. We are stressed
and anxious, waiting to see the verdict in the Chauvin murder trial, and we are
tired of seeing shootings and the use of force against black people.
"Just as we are calling to hold law enforcement to a much
higher standard, I pray that in the coming days, we hold ourselves to a high
standard. Seeing a peaceful Columbus protest devolve with a few individual
acts of violence does not speed up an investigation or advance justice. Council
does not condone violence or unnecessary force against protestors or by
protestors.
"Council will continue to advance reform. The next critical
step is seating the Civilian Police Review Board approved by voters. Council will
hold a hearing Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at 6pm to give the public an
opportunity to hear from proposed Civilian Police Review Broad appointees.”
