Statement from President Hardin on Councilmember Tyson’s Retirement at the End of 2021

[Columbus, OH] – The following statement regarding the retirement of Councilmember Priscilla R. Tyson can be attributed in full, or in part, to Council President Shannon G. Hardin:

"It's a rarity that you get to work alongside and learn from someone who is deeply committed to service and the uplifting of community. I had the distinct pleasure of doing just that. After 14 years of service to the residents of Columbus, my colleague Priscilla R. Tyson, Council’s longest-serving woman, announced that she will retire at the end of this year when her term ends.

"Under her leadership, Council has increased residents’ access to healthcare, fought to reduce tobacco use in people 21 and younger, allocated funds to help folks stay in their homes and dedicated millions to fight poverty. In recent years, she launched the Commission on Black Girls, battled food-insecurity, and declared racism a public health crisis. Since 2007, Councilmember Tyson has helped transform the lives of residents with an unrelenting focus on ensuring that everyone has access to the opportunities that help them realize their greatest self.

"Serving alongside Councilmember Priscilla Tyson has been an honor that I will always cherish. Thank you, Councilmember Tyson, for your service."
