Council President Shannon Hardin Releases Statement on Federal Bump Stock Ban
"Classifying
bump stocks as machine guns is a major step forward in the fight against gun
violence. But there is still more work to be done towards keeping America’s
cities like Columbus safe and prosperous," said Columbus City Council
President Shannon G. Hardin.
"Ensuring
a safer and more prosperous Columbus means our policymakers must pass
common-sense gun laws that include banning assault weapons, stronger background
checks that include domestic violence convictions and increased investments in
mental health supports. Columbus like all American cities deserves common-sense
policies that ensure the safety and wellness for all," Hardin continued.
Earlier
this year, Council President Hardin, Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and City Attorney
Zach Klein proposed eleven comprehensive changes to local laws to address
the longstanding issues of gun violence by closing the gap between state and
federal law, protecting victims of domestic violence and removing dangerous
weapons from neighborhoods.
