Create Columbus Commission Announces Kick-Off of 2016 Grants Program
[COLUMBUS-OH] Got an idea to improve the personal financial
health, decrease dependency on personal vehicles and position young professionals
as co-creators of the City? Then, the Create Columbus Commission wants to hear
from you.
Wednesday, March 09, 2016, marks the official start of the 2016
grants process, which awards $60,000 worth of funding to young professional
initiatives in Central Ohio. To support this effort, three grant workshops will
be provided.
Workshop
dates are:

March 9, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Little Rock Bar,
944 North Fourth St., Columbus
- March 22, 9-10 a.m. at The Columbus
Foundation, 1234 E. Broad St., Columbus
- March 24, 5:30-7:50 p.m. at Seventh Son
Brewing Co., 1101 N. Fourth St., Columbus
Other
notable dates:
- April 1: Grant Letters of Intent Due
- April 22: Notification of Status Regarding
Letter of Intent
- May 13: Final Grant Applications Due
Columbus City Council and the Office of the Mayor annually
allocate funding to the Create Columbus Grants Program through the city’s
budget.
"The grants workshops are a valuable opportunity
for organizations to receive feedback from the Commission prior to submitting
their applications,” said Zach Klein, City Council president. “City Council
looks forward to the results that these grants workshops will yield.”
“We greatly appreciate the contribution made by the
members of the Create Columbus Commission, whose hard work helps to enhance the
young professional experience in Columbus. Council looks forward to learning
more about the projects selected to improve the financial wellness of our young
professionals,” he continued.
Previous grant recipients include Besa, a 501(c)3
organization that partners with nonprofit businesses to connect passionate and
dedicated volunteers to community need. With grant money provided through the
Create Columbus Commission, Besa was able to expand from 84 annual service
projects to 250 service projects and an economic impact of $200,000.
“Young professionals are a cornerstone to the
future of Columbus, making positive and lasting impacts in neighborhoods
throughout the city,” said Mayor Andrew J. Ginther. “Columbus has a dynamic
creative community, and I encourage young professionals to apply for the next
round of grants and turn their creative ideas into action.”
Create Columbus Commission Grants Chair Bryan Ashton agrees. “The
grant workshops are an outstanding opportunity to hear a broader overview of
the Create Columbus Grant Program, receive feedback from members on grant ideas
and learn about the formatting of the Letter of Intent, due April 1st,”
he said.
