Hunger Doesn’t Take a Spring Break

Barnett Center and Councilmember Jaiza Page Serve Lunch

Now that spring break has begun, some families will be faced with stretching resources for the week’s nutritious meals and snacks.  Barnett Recreation Center is taking measures to fill this gap because “Hunger Doesn’t Take a Spring Break”.

From Tuesday, March 29 until Friday, April 1, 2016 Barnett Center, 1184 Barnett Rd, will be serving lunch at its 7th Annual “Friends, Food and Fun…Spring Break at Barnett” event.  Beginning at noon, the center will distribute lunches followed soon after by fun, organized activities.  Councilmember Jaiza Page will be providing and serving lunch on Friday, April 1.

“In addition to keeping families healthy, residents have fun, safe activities they can go to while schools are out for the week,” said Page.  “Columbus is fortunate to have active, engaged community members who are able to connect and grow with places like the Barnett Recreation Center.”

Barnett Center serves over 200,000 people annually and celebrated its 50th year of service to the Eastside, Near East, Far East and Southeast neighborhoods of Columbus.  It is a full serviced center housing several programs, classes and special events.  Partners of the center include CDC Headstart, Berwyn East Civic Association, the Mid-Ohio Foodbank and the Far East Neighborhood Pride Center.
