Jennifer Gallagher Named Director of Public Service

Interim Director since January 2016 transitions to Director of Public Service 

[COLUMBUS, OH] Jennifer Gallagher, interim director of the City of Columbus Department of Public Service has been named director of the Department of Public Service by Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther. 

Gallagher, who has been serving as the interim director since January, will assume the position immediately.

“Director Gallagher has been a dedicated deputy director for many years and has handled the interim role over the last several months with great professionalism,” said Mayor Ginther. “I am confident in her ability to lead our Department of Public Service.”

Columbus City Councilmember Shannon Hardin who chairs the Public Service committee is in full agreement with the appointment.

“This is a proud moment for Public Service,” said Councilmember Hardin. “Jennifer Gallagher not only has the expertise, vision and passion for the job, she also has the institutional knowledge to propel the department forward and ensure Columbus is a leader in transportation for the country.” 

“I’m thankful to Mayor Ginther for his confidence in me and the Department of Public Service and I look forward to the future endeavors,” said Gallagher. “The Department is moving in an exciting direction and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Public Service employs more than 800 people and is responsible for city services such as snow removal, traffic, parking and infrastructure management.
Gallagher has been deputy director of Public Service for the City of Columbus since 2011. Previously, she worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation as co-deputy director and transportation engineer. Gallagher holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering from The Ohio State University.
