Let’s Talk Safe Neighborhoods
Columbus City
Council Leads Panel Discussion to Enhance Safety Measures in Northland Area
[COLUMBUS, OH] Neighborhoods
give a city its character. Its people collectively develop a system of values
that unite residents and solidify community relationships.
Council President
Zach Klein and Public Safety Committee Chair Mitchell J. Brown will lead a
panel discussion that will explore how to maximize safety in the Northland
area. The event takes place on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, Crossroads Baptist
Church, 5075 Cleveland Ave at 5:30pm.
“It is necessary that we foster an ongoing dialogue with
residents especially when it comes to safety,” said Council President Klein. “Each neighborhood is unique. We want to know
what are the issues so we can work to create concrete solutions.”
When residents came to Council reporting criminal
activity in local hotels and motels, city leaders heard their concerns, proposed
and enacted the Hotel/Motel code creating a licensing program that expedited a
remedy to address the issue, including the closure of the establishment.
“We have made great progress making our neighborhoods
safer,” said Councilmember Brown. “We have
customized solutions to target individual community concerns. However, we have
more to do and that is why we need our community members and leaders to come
and talk to us.”
