What:
City Council President Zach Klein joins the Columbus Division of Police, Division of Fire and the Department of Public Health to outline a pilot project allowing patrol officers to combat overdoses through the administration of Naloxone (Narcan). The abuse of opiates has become a national epidemic with heroin causing an extremely high number of these overdoses.
"First responders are on the front lines of helping our community tackle addiction. By equipping both police officers and firefighters with Narcan, we are being progressive and aggressive in treating the addicted and saving lives," said Klein.
Many Columbus police officers, often first on the scene of an overdose, are now equipped with this additional life-saving tool.
