by one they stand united, determined to defeat the temptation of
addiction. The women of Amethyst, Inc. are sharing their stories of
redemption, perseverance and hope.
America’s
Opportunity City is battling the nationwide epidemic of opiate addiction, and on Friday, May
13, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Columbus, 350 North High
Street, at 11:30am, the Amethyst’s annual Portraits of
Recovery event will honor the women who had the courage
to seek help.
Columbus
City Council President Pro Tem Priscilla Tyson will serve as master
of ceremony.
“I
stand with these women in triumph,” said Tyson. “This is a journey that we take
as a community, uplifting one another. It takes a
village to support these women, and I’m proud to be a part of that
village."
The
luncheon will feature inspiring stories of recovery shared by women and their
daughters.
Amethyst’s
annual Portraits of Recovery Luncheon is an
opportunity to honor women who had the courage to march
towardrecovery. Many of them believed no one
cared about them. They suffered from
the shame and stigma of addiction.
“Amethyst
has been changing lives, saving lives and reuniting family since 1984 with the
help and support of the community and many generous friends,” said
Virginia O’Keeffe, Amethyst interim CEO. “We need to talk about recovery. It’s
the only way we can eliminate the stigma and end the cycle of addiction.
Treatment works and people do recover,” she continued.
