GREEN YOUR WORLD

Green Spot Green EarthBelieve it or not, there are things you can do to get green just about everywhere you go.

Here are three of them to get you started.

These tools can help your business take steps towards sustainability: a waste audit, media release template, email message, and reminder stickers.

At School

  • Use pencils made from recycled material. (Can you believe pencils can be made from all sorts of things--like furniture, old money, and paper?)
  • $10 billion in textbooks are sold each year. Buy used textbooks and sell them back when you're finished with each class.
  • Use water-based markers that contain non-toxic ink. That way, when you throw markers away, you won't be throwing toxic chemicals into a landfill with them.
  • Buy school supplies made from recycled paper, like file folders, sticky notes, and binders.

At Home

  • Install a water filter on your sink faucet, and give up bottled water for good.
  • Only run your dishwasher when it's full, and you could save an average of 1,000 gallons of water per month.
  • Clean your microwave regularly to maximize its energy.
  • If you're baking something in the oven for an hour or longer, don't pre-heat it first. One less hour of oven use equals 2 kilowatts of energy save.

At Work

  • When you're faxing something, skip the cover page. You save paper by not creating one--and the recipient saves paper by not receiving one too.
  • Give each associate a small recycling bin to keep in their office, and designate a weekly pickup day.
  • Try to use refillable pens and markers--since pens aren't recyclable or biodegradable.
  • Purchase copy and printer paper with 30% or more recycled content.
