May 21, 2015, Kevin O’Connor was appointed the 24th Chief of the
Columbus Division of Fire. Initially joining the Division in 1989, Chief
O’Connor has spent the past 26 years with the Division of Fire, including
leadership roles in multiple bureaus and Division initiatives. He was promoted
to Lieutenant of the Columbus Division of Fire in 1994, Captain in 1997,
Battalion Chief in 2001, and Deputy Chief in 2011. Most recently, Chief
O’Connor has served as Assistant Chief of the Training Bureau since 2011.
O’Connor graduated from the Ohio State University in 1987 with a B.S. in
Education and graduated from Franklin University with an M.B.A. in 2002.
Recognized with the Distinguished Service Award in 2007, Chief O’Connor played
an integral role in establishing a strategic partnership with Ohio Health
Systems to increase EMS simulation training, as well as Columbus State
Community College to share state-of-the-art facilities and create a program for
Academy training to be accepted by CSCC as credits towards an associate’s
degree. He currently serves as President of the Franklin County Chiefs’
Association, Chair of the Columbus Division of EMS Accreditation Committee, and
is a member of National Fire Protection Association.
