Get Active In Your Care

You can improve your care and the care of your loved ones by taking an active role in your health care, talking to your doctor, and asking questions.

Research shows that patients who have a good relationship with their clinicians receive better care and are happier with the care they receive. Find the tools you need to help you do just that.

5 Important Questions
5 Questions to Ask Your Doctor Before You Get Any Test, Treatment or Procedure
Some medical tests, treatments, and procedures provide little benefit. And in some cases, they may even cause harm. Talk to your doctor to make sure you end up with the right amount of care — not too much and not too little.

Healthcare Consumer Workshop

Improving your health starts with you. Offered by the Office of Minority Health at Columbus Public Health, this workshop gives you the tools you need to partner with your doctor.

Your instructor will guide you through a workbook that coach you in:

  • Keeping your health records.
  • Preparing for healthcare visits.
  • Talking with your healthcare provider (asking questions and giving information).
  • Understanding how to be a full partner in your healthcare.
  • Following your treatment plan.

The workshop is free and held at various places around Columbus, such as libraries, senior housing complexes, churches, and recreation centers. For more information, contact the Office of Minority Health (614) 645-1542.
