DISEASE PREVENTION AND CONTROL FOR WEST NILE VIRUS – Weekly Update
FOR THURSDAY, AUGUST 5
WHAT: In order to practice disease prevention and control for the West Nile Virus, Columbus Public Health will be spraying neighborhoods in Columbus. Hot weather means more mosquitoes, and with more mosquitoes comes an increased risk of West Nile Virus. To date, one positive pool of mosquitoes has been detected in the Columbus city limits.

WHEN: Monday, August 9, through Friday, August 13, between the early morning hours from 4 a.m. – dawn.

Monday, August 9 - NE - N Linden and Clinton Twp.
Tuesday, August 10 - N - The Ohio State Fairgrounds
Wednesday, August 11 - SE Region
Thursday, August 12 -NE -Near Port Columbus Airport
Friday, August 13 -NE -Near Port Columbus Airport
DETAILS: Columbus Public Health practices disease prevention and control by using an Integrated Pest Management methodology. CPH traps mosquitoes, investigates mosquito complaints and treats standing water to kill larval mosquitoes. Fogging areas are based on adult mosquito trap results and reports from field staff, the number and type of mosquitoes trapped, and the number of infected mosquitoes. They are not decided by the number of complaints from any given area. Weekly maps will be posted on the Columbus Public Health Web site at www.publichealth.columbus.gov.
