Dogs or cats between 3 months and 1 year of age will receive a one year rabies tag.  Pets more than a year old with proof of prior rabies vaccination will receive a three year rabies tag.  A rabies vaccination certificate or a Columbus/Franklin County rabies tag serves as proof of prior vaccination and must be brought to the clinic.  Pets without proof of prior vaccination will receive a one year rabies tag.

According to the law, all dogs and cats in Columbus and Franklin County are required to be vaccinated against rabies and to wear a rabies tag.

Rabies is a severe viral disease that affects the central nervous system and it is almost always fatal.  All warm-blooded mammals, including humans, are susceptible to rabies.  The rabies virus is found in the saliva of a rabid animal and it usually spreads to humans through animal bites.
