“Getting tested and taking control of your HIV status can help you live a longer, healthier and more productive life,” says Columbus Public Health Commissioner Dr. Teresa Long.  “Additionally, studies show that managing HIV infection, is a necessary step to protect your health and that of your partners, so it also helps prevent new infections.”

Nearly 1.2 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV, and almost one in five don’t know they are infected. Locally as of 2011, more than 4,000 residents in our region are living with HIV.  Additionally, Columbus Public Health estimates about 5,100 people are living with the virus, including those who do not know it.

In addition to National HIV Testing Day events, many local clinics and testing locations offer free HIV tests year round with some locations offering confidential or anonymous HIV tests.
