Columbus Public Health to Spray Area Neighborhoods to Prevent West Nile Virus

WHAT:      
Columbus Public Health (CPH) will spray areas highlighted in the on-line map to practice disease control and prevention for the West Nile virus.  The effort is part of a comprehensive West Nile prevention strategy which also includes trapping mosquitoes, investigating complaints, treating standing water, and spraying in areas with high mosquito counts and disease presence.

Between 4–7 a.m.

Sept. 10:

  • Westgate: (North Boundary – W Broad St., East Boundary – S Hague Ave., South Boundary – Briggs Rd., West Boundary – S Wilson Ave.)
  • Hilltop: (North Boundary – Westwood Dr., East Boundary – I-70, South Boundary – Eakin Rd., West Boundary – Hague Ave.)
  • Franklinton: (North Boundary – I-670, East Boundary – Scioto River, South Boundary – I-70, West Boundary – I-70) 
  • Near South: (North Boundary – Frebis Ave., East Boundary – Lockbourne Rd., South Boundary – OH-104, West Boundary – Parsons Ave.)

Sept. 11:

  • South Columbus: (North Boundary – OH-104, East Boundary – Weirton Rd., South Boundary – Yates Dr., West Boundary – Groveport Rd.)
  • Eastland: (North Boundary – I-70, East Boundary – S Hamilton Rd., South Boundary – Winchester Pike, West Boundary – US-33)
  • Southeast Columbus: (North Boundary – Blacklick Creek, East Boundary – Gender Rd., South Boundary – Winchester Pike, West Boundary – Blacklick Creek)

DETAILS:
Weekly spraying areas are determined by mosquito trap results and reports from field staff, the number and type of mosquitoes trapped, the number of infected mosquitoes and evidence of human disease. Updated spraying maps are available on the Columbus Public Health Web site.
