Event will feature the Film “Something the Lord Made”
A
special Black History Month Film Screening and Conversation on Health in the
Black Community will be held on Saturday, February 11 from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at
the King Arts Complex, 835 Mt. Vernon Ave.
Free
activities will include opening remarks by Health Commissioner Dr. Mysheika
Roberts, a catered lunch, screening of the film “Something the Lord Made” and a
discussion on health equity and racism as a public health crisis.
“Something
the Lord Made” is a biographical drama about Black cardiac pioneer Vivien
Thomas (played by Mos Def) and his complex partnership with white surgeon
Alfred Blalock (played by Alan Rickman) who pioneered modern heart surgery.
