Leadership Resiliency Program
The Leadership Resiliency Program (LRP) is an intensive substance abuse
prevention program for adolescents in both school based and community recreation center
locations.
LRP focuses on substance use prevention, increasing positive coping skills, and reducing risk factors. Without intervention, these factors can
potentially cause problems throughout a person’s life.
Of particular importance
are risk factors that can lead to criminality, addiction, and victimization.
Many risk factors are addressed while addressing resiliency
factors.
LRP
programming has three major parts:
-
Closed
Discussion Based Groups
- Community
volunteer experiences
- Alternative
or adventure activities
There are three resiliency
areas: healthy relationships,
goal-setting and coping strategies.
LRP addresses
the following internal strengths:
-
Desire
and ability to feel and understand the needs of others;
- Desire
to help others;
- Ability
to delay gratification;
- A
perspective focused on the future;
- An
internal locus of control;
- Ability
to genuinely accept one’s circumstances;
- A
strong sense of self-efficacy
- Ability
to take appropriately managed risks.
