Dental Sealants

Program Information

This school-based program offers the protective dental sealants (plastic coatings) on the back permanent molars of 2nd and 6th grade students attending Columbus City and Whitehall City schools.

A dentist screens the students who have parent permission. Teams of dental hygienists and dental assistants place the sealants right at the school.

While there is no cost for these services, insurance is accepted when possible to help cover costs and keep the program operating.

About Dental Sealants

Most cavities start on back teeth because they have small gaps called "pits" and "fissures" where germs and food can hide, causing tooth decay. Teeth need protection from cavities.

Sealant is a safe plastic coating which keeps germs out of the back teeth by covering the tiny hiding places where germs can cause decay. They are easy to apply and there are no drills or needles involved!

With dental sealants, your child may never have a cavity or filling, and you'll probably have lower dental bills!

Your Child Can Get Sealants at School

You may want your child to get sealants at your family dentist's office. Sealants are also available to students at your child's school when they are in 2nd and 6th grade. A parent or guardian needs to read and sign the consent form and have the child return the form to the teacher. That's all you have to do.

Sealants are easy, painless and good for your child's dental health.

Don't wait. Sign up your child to get sealants.
