MAY IS NATIONAL BIKE MONTH!

Whether you bike to work or school; ride to save money or time; pump those pedals to preserve your health or the environment; or simply to explore your community, National Bike Month is an opportunity to celebrate the unique power of the bicycle and the many reasons we ride. Below is a list of some of the great events going on throughout Columbus during Bike Month -- whether you're young or old, beginner or experienced bicyclist, let's ride!

Blessing of the Bicycles

BLESSING OF THE BICYCLES

Start Bike Month off with an interfaith "Blessing of the Bicycles" ceremony, a celebration of our diverse cycling community and of our various experiences with bicycles. Regardless your religious affiliation, you'll find something here to inspire you and rejuvenate your soul.

RxRiders

BIKE TO HELP THEM BREATHE

SATURDAY MAY 5, 8:00AM

Join the Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio for their second bike ride fundraiser. The ride will start at the Livingston United Methodist Church downtown. All proceeds will go to purchase inhalers and breathing medicine for their low-income patients. The 50-mile trek will start at 7:30 a.m. The 8- and 25-mile riders will depart at 8:00 a.m.

FCW BIKE SCHOOL: TIRES, TUBES, AND HOW TO FIX A FLAT

Everyone's had a flat bike tire at some point their life. In this class, you'll learn everything you need to know about tires, inner tubes, how to avoid getting a flat, and what do when you do get a flat.

Bike Breweries 2018

BIKE THE BREWERIES

SATURDAY MAY 12, 8AM-3PM

This scenic bike tour is approximately 16 miles and makes stops at twelve Columbus breweries for a brief tour and beer samples. There are three start times: 8:00AM, 8:30AM, and 9:00AM. This year's charities include The Childhood League, American Diabetes Association, and the Central Ohio Mountain Bike Organization.

Yay Electric

YEAR OF YAY! THE FUTURE IS ELECTRIC

SATURDAY MAY 12, 10AM-2PM

Year of Yay! is a series of 12 monthly bicycle tours that are FREE for Yay Bikes! members and first-time guests, and features a different theme each month. This month, their theme is 'The Future is Electric.' This no-drop ride is 20-ish miles but rolls at a conversational pace and is appropriate for riders of all ages and skill levels.

Brakes; the often overlooked member of the bicycle component family...until you really need them. Nothing improves your bike's performance or builds rider confidence like good solid brakes. In this class, you'll learn how to detect and replace worn components, adjust your brakes so they perform to their optimal potential, and how to maintain your braking system to ensure longevity.

FCW BIKE SCHOOL: WHEEL TRUING AND HUB OVERHAUL

Ever noticed a wobble in your wheel? It happens to all of us but its generally not that difficult to fix. How about a wheel that no longer spins freely or smoothly? No biggie; we'll teach you how to fix that. In this class, you'll learn the process of tightening and loosing spokes to bring your wheel back into tru; get rid of the wobble.
