Franklin County Food Policy Audit
The Franklin County Local Food Council has advocated for local government policies that support a strong and resilient local food system since 2011. They played a critical role in starting the conversation about the need for the Local Food Action Plan through their work developing The Franklin County Food Policy Audit, a 2012 report that scored Franklin County’s food system-related policies. The Franklin County Food Policy audit scored the food system policies in Franklin County across four categories: (1) Food Security and Sustainability, (2) Zoning and Land Use, (3) Public Health and Food Access, (4) Social Equity. The report provided 11 recommendations for priority policy areas to focus on in Franklin County, and laid the foundation for the Local Food Action Plan.
