Access to Naloxone
What is Naloxone (Narcan)?
A prescription medication that can reverse an overdose that
is caused by an opioid drug. When administered during an overdose, Naloxone
blocks the effects of opioids on the brain and restores breathing. It can be
given as an injection into a muscle or a nasal spray.
Mail Order Program
- Individuals that reside in Franklin County are eligible to receive a free kit of Narcan Nasal Spray by mail while supplies last. Naloxone, or Narcan Nasal Spray, is a medication that can block the effects of opioids and reverse an overdose. Always call 911 when someone is experiencing an overdose. Please fill out the following form in order to receive a kit and learn how to recognize and respond to an overdose. Once your form is submitted, a Columbus Public Health employee will review it. If you are located in Franklin County, a kit will be mailed to you. If you have questions, please call 614-645-6839 to speak to a CPH Alcohol and Drug Service employee.

First-come, first-served walk-in groups every FIRST and THIRD Friday of the month at 1pm. Interested parties should come to the front desk and sign-in for the Naloxone Group. You do not need to be a Southeast patient to join these groups.

Most CVS, Kroger, and Walgreen
Pharmacies now carry Naloxone. You can contact your local pharmacy to confirm
if they have Naloxone available or visit http://pharmacy.ohio.gov/Licensing/NaloxonePharmacy.aspx.
In retail pharmacies, the cost of a
naloxone kit is usually covered with most prescription insurances. The cost
will be between $50-100 without prescription insurance. You do not need a prescription to get naloxone.
