Weinland Park, Phase 3B, East 11th Avenue Roadway and Sidewalks Improvements Project Underway
The construction of a project that
will add new sidewalks, bicycle features, a resurfaced roadway, and other
safety improvements included in the Weinland Park, Phase 3B, East 11th
Avenue Roadway Project is underway. The work is one of nine
infrastructure improvement projects in the Weinland Park and Milo-Grogan
neighborhoods that started in 2010 and will all be completed in 2016, and is
leveraging private investment in the two neighborhoods.
“We are working with our
neighborhood and private development partners to invest in, and lift up,
Weinland Park and Milo-Grogan for decades to come,” said Mayor Michael B.
Coleman. “Our partnership is working to make roadways safer for everyone
and to bring jobs and improved housing to families in both neighborhoods.”
The project will include the
following improvements on East 11th Avenue between North Pearl
Street and North Grant Avenue:
- Reconstruction of existing sidewalks and curbs
on both sides of East 11th Avenue
- Resurfacing of the street
- The additions of curb extensions at various
locations. Curb extensions reduce the distance pedestrians must travel
when crossing streets.
- Bicycle sharrow pavement markings
- Upgraded traffic signals with mast arm poles,
including the addition of a bicycle signal at the intersection of East 11th
Avenue and Summit Street. This signal will be for the new two-way
protected bike lane to be installed along the west side of Summit Street
between East 11th Avenue and East Hudson Street this fall. The
protected bike lane will be the first such bike lane in Columbus.
- New street lights
- New street trees
“This latest project along East
11th Avenue is the latest in a long list of improvements in the area
during the last few years,” said Councilmember Shannon G. Hardin, chair of the
Public Service and Transportation Committee. “This is a thriving
community that is being made safer thanks to the increased public and
private investment in the neighborhood.”
The project’s construction on East
11th Avenue between North Pearl Street and North Grant Avenue will
be done in three parts:
- 1.Improvements
inside the project’s boundaries will be constructed along the north side of
East 11th Avenue, with two-way traffic maintained
- 2.Improvements
inside the project’s boundaries will be constructed along the south side of
East 11th Avenue, with two-way traffic maintained
- 3.In
the spring of 2016, East 11th Avenue inside the project’s boundaries
will be resurfaced. During the resurfacing, only one lane of traffic will
be open and only one-way westbound traffic will be maintained. The
resurfacing will take approximately one month to complete, weather permitting.
Some temporary parking restrictions
on East 11
th Avenue between North Pearl Street and North Grant
Avenue will be in place at various times during the construction.
The project is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2016, weather
permitting.
The cost of the Weinland Park,
Phase 3B, East 11th Avenue project is $3 million, which is included
in the City’s more than $22 million investment in nine infrastructure projects
