Gender Road at Refugee Road
Description: The city of Columbus and the Ohio Department of Transportation are collaborating to improve Gender Road, between approximately the Conrail tracks and Dorothy's Pond Lane, and Refugee Road between Countryview Drive and Quinlan Boulevard. The planned improvements will reduce traffic congestion, improve safety and upgrade pedestrian and bicycle facilities.
Current plans include:
- Widening and resurfacing Gender and Refugee roads
- Adding sidewalks, curbs, gutters, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps, street lighting, stormwater system and trees
- Constructing a shared-use path on the south side of Refugee Road, sidewalk on the north side of the road and bike lanes on both sides of Gender Road
- Upgrading traffic signals, signage and pedestrian countdown timers and push-button signals at crosswalks
Schedule:
Design: Completed in 2015.
Construction: Scheduled to begin in spring 2016 if funding becomes available.
Estimated Cost:
$6.5 million. The Ohio Department of Transportation will fund 90% of the cost, with 10% of the cost funded by the city of Columbus.
