Hilliard-Rome Road at Feder Road and Fisher Road

Description and benefits:

The city of Columbus, the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission are collaborating to improve the intersection of Hilliard-Rome Road at Feder Road and Fisher Road. The project will reduce traffic congestion, improve safety and provide pedestrian and bicyclist accommodations. Improvements to the Hilliard-Rome Road & I-70 interchange are also planned. 

Current Plans Include:

  • Widening Hilliard-Rome and Fisher roads in order to add turn and through lanes
  • Building sidewalks, curbs and gutters on both sides of Feder and Fisher roads plus both sides of Hilliard-Rome Road south of Fisher Road
  • Constructing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps
  • Adding six-foot-wide bike lanes on both sides of Feder and Fisher roads
  • Adding a service road with traffic signal at intersection of Feder Road & Hartford Village Boulevard
  • Upgrading traffic signals, signage, pedestrian countdown timers and push-button signals at crosswalks

Estimated schedule: 
Design: Autumn 2015 – Late 2020
Right-of-way acquisition: Summer 2017 - Late 2020
Utility relocations:  Winter 2018 - Summer 2021
Construction: Fall 2021 – Summer 2023, subject to funding approval by City Council and weather conditions

Estimated costs:
Design and study:  $800,000
Right-of-way acquisition: $2,560,000 ($713,000 provided by Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission)
Construction: $10.6 million ($3.8 million provided by Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, $2.9 million provided by OPWC, $1.8 million provided by ODOT Safety funding)
