Polaris Parkway
DESCRIPTION
AND BENEFITS:
The City of Columbus,
the Ohio Department of Transportation and Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission
are collaborating to improve the intersection of Polaris Parkway and Orion
Place. Limits: Polaris Parkway between I-71 and Olde
Worthington Road; Orion Place between County Line Road and approximately 700
feet north of Polaris Parkway. The planned improvements will reduce traffic
congestion, improve safety and upgrade pedestrian facilities, including:
- Widening Polaris
Parkway and Orion Place in order to add turn lanes; resurfacing as needed
- Adding curbs, gutters,
sidewalks, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps and a
shared-use path on east side of Orion Place and south side of Polaris Parkway
- Constructing a
roundabout at intersection of Orion Place and Olde Worthington Road
- Upgrading traffic
signals, signage, pedestrian countdown timers and push-button signals at
crosswalks
- Updating traffic
signal poles
- Relocating stormwater
facilities

SCHEDULE:
Design: Spring 2015 – Fall
2018
Right-of-way acquisition: Fall 2016 – Fall 2018
Construction: Early 2019 – Late 2020, subject to funding approval by City
Council and weather conditions
ESTIMATED COSTS:
Design: $1.5 million
Right-of-way acquisition: $4.2 million (MORPC providing $3.5 million)
Utility relocation: $1 million (MORPC
providing $800,000)
Construction: $12.8 million (MORPC providing $9.4 million)
