Columbus Cultural Arts Center Announces June Events

COLUMBUS, OH  – The Columbus Cultural Arts Center (CAC) has announced its June 2021 calendar of events.

 

Exhibitions:

 

The Art of Surviving a Pandemic

June 4-July 10, Main Gallery

 

Curated by Leticia Vázquez-Smith, president of Latino Arts for Humanity

Multidisciplinary exhibition featuring local artists who were invited to share personal stories of how they continued to create art during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Four Visions of Abstraction

June 4-July 10, Loft Gallery

 

Artists Kari Djuve, Dana Grubbe, Patti Sandilands and Karen Torvik join together for a group exhibition focusing on abstract painting.

Workshops:

 

Color Your Life

June 19, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Cost: $20

 

Join instructor Darsy Amaya for this fun, positive energy workshop! Participants will learn about the seven Chakras and their gemstones as they create their own Chakra Color Meditation bracelet. Participants will explore positive visualization and affirmation practices, which can aid in improved focus, awareness and overall wellbeing. Materials will be provided, including an Affirmation Card. Come explore the possibilities for increased positivity in your life, as you connect mind, body and spirit!

 

 

 

How To Make Cartoneria (Also Known as Paper Mâché)

June 19, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Cost: $25

 

Learn the history of “Cartoneria Mexicana,” also known as paper mâché, with instructor Leticia Vásquez-Smith! Participants will learn about the objects created through this art-making process and their importance in Mexican culture. Explore glue making, best paper practices, mold techniques and more. Please come prepared to get messy!

Kari Djuve and Dana Grubbe will discuss their artistic process and inspiration for “Four Visions of Abstraction.”

 

June 17

Patti Sandilands and Karen Torvik will share insights and details about their work featured in “Four Visions of Abstraction.”

 

 

 

COVID-19 Safety Protocols:

 

The health and safety of participants and staff is our top priority. We have implemented rigorous, department-wide procedures, which include:

 

  1. Access to our facilities is limited to registered visitors and staff. 

  2. Face coverings must be worn at all times unless otherwise noted.

  3. Social distancing - staying six feet away from others - must be observed at all times, with an understanding of the challenges and limitations for social distancing with very young children and individuals with disabilities. 

  4. If you are feeling sick (cough, fever, nausea, runny nose, etc.), you must stay home.

  5. Only one person is permitted in the elevator at a time, with the exception of individuals requiring assistance and families/members of the same household.
