Columbus Cultural Arts Center Announces October Events

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Cultural Arts Center (CAC) has announced its October 2021 events.

Exhibitions

Art and Jazz

Oct. 8-Nov. 1; Main Gallery

Visual artist Karin Dahl and composers Chris Berg, Brian Cashwell and Michael Cox explore how art and music combine to enhance meaning – showing that music plus art is more than either medium alone. This exhibition will include abstract paintings accompanied by original musical compositions. Ucelli: The Columbus Cello Quartet will also be performing in the exhibition space Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.

Opening Night: Friday, Oct. 8

Instagram Live virtual walkthrough: TBA

Masks

Oct. 8-Nov. 13; Loft Gallery

In this exhibition, artists Barbara Vogel and Marge Bender have joined forces to create one-of-a-kind masks that highlight the impact COVID-19 has had on our day-to-day interaction with individual faces. Masks range from silly to sinister, with what was originally planned to be a “thing of the past” retrospective to something still ever so present within our society.

Opening Night: Friday, Oct. 8

Instagram Live virtual walkthrough: TBA

Artist in Residence

Brianna Rhodes Sept. 14-Jan. 4

Dancer, poet and educator Brianna Rhodes will be our next Artist in Residence this fall! Hailing from Dayton, Ohio, Rhodes freelances and teaches dance, including multiple online offerings during the pandemic. We are eager to see how Rhodes will craft her work and time through this residency. Follow our social media outlets for more updates along the way.

Conversations & Coffee (Virtual)

Thursdays, Noon-1 p.m.

This free virtual program features a different artist every other week, sharing insights into their creative process. Information on how to join is available online.

  • Oct. 14: Karin Dahl will join us to share more on the exhibition “Art and Jazz,” which is currently on exhibit in our Main Gallery. The work includes abstract oil paintings accompanied by the sounds of professional musicians.
  •  Oct. 28: Eric S. Murphy, painter and sculptor, will join us to share his thought process, creations and more.
