Columbus Recreation and Parks Department Partners with Clemson University to Offer Veterans Adaptive Soccer Camp
COLUMBUS – Columbus Recreation and
Parks Department is partnering with Clemson University to offer the Clemson
Veterans Adaptive Soccer Camp. This initiative is part of the Clemson
Paralympic Soccer Program and takes place July 9-11, from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Saturday’s session will include a tour of the National Veterans Memorial and
Museum, followed by dinner at Topgolf. Adaptive Sports Club of Columbus, part
of Columbus Recreation and Parks’ Therapeutic Recreation division, will host
the camp.
Meals and housing will
be provided for all camp participants. Transportation will also be provided to
and from camp activities. Injured and disabled veterans will have the
opportunity to learn the basics of adaptive soccer, which include 7-a-side and
blind soccer. They will also earn certifications in US Soccer Federation
Grassroots Coaching and Mental Health First Aid, and will receive tips and
resources for putting their newly-acquired skills and certifications to use in
their communities.
All injured and disabled
military veterans are welcome to register and participate, regardless of
ability. Sign up at clemsonparalympicsoccer.org
or call Therapeutic Recreation at 614-645-5648.
The safety of
participants and staff remains a priority, and appropriate safety measures
remain in place. Columbus Public Health continues to recommend that all
unvaccinated individuals wear a mask while indoors and if a distance of 6 feet
or more cannot be maintained while outdoors. Columbus Recreation and Parks
staff will support anyone who would like to wear a mask while participating in
programming, and will continue to have masks available for anyone who requests
one.
More information about
safety protocols is available at columbus.gov/recparkscovid19.
