Columbus Recreation and Parks Opens State-of-the-Art Community Center in Linden

Community-built facility features recreational amenities and technology updates for residents of all ages.

COLUMBUS, OH–Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and Columbus Recreation and Parks Department opened a state-of-the-art community center in Linden to expand access to recreation. The new 55,000 square-foot facility includes multi-purpose wellness and activity space that will bring new life to a cherished Columbus neighborhood. The Linden Community Center is part of Mayor Ginther’s One Linden plan, a comprehensive strategy to revitalize and reinvigorate the Linden neighborhood.

“This new facility was built and designed by residents and serves as a gathering place for people of all ages,” said Mayor Andrew J. Ginther. “I am committed to expanding Columbus’ success to every person in every neighborhood, and this opportunity center is one example of this promise.”

About the Linden Community Center: The new center includes numerous features, including Columbus Recreation and Parks’ first-ever elevated walking track, a fitness room, dance studio, wellness clinic, and a demonstration/teaching kitchen complete with video recording/streaming capability. Additional indoor and outdoor features include:

  • Full regulation-sized, spring-loaded gym floor, the first at any Columbus Recreation and Parks site
  • Basketball, tennis, hockey, pickleball and futsal courts
  • Football, baseball and soccer fields
  • Professional-quality music studio with video and green screen recording capabilities
  • Art and ceramics studio
  • Multiple computers and a learning center
  • WIC wellness clinic
  • IGS solar panels
  • Sprayground/splash pad
  • Site amenities throughout (benches, grills, picnic tables)
  • Multi-use programming and community partner spaces

The Linden Community Center and Park replace the Linden Recreation Center, which was originally built as an outdoor shelter in 1951 and was expanded through the years and was most recently an outdated 24,000-square-foot structure. The 20-acre Linden Park will be renovated with sports fields, a shelterhouse, an outdoor performance area, a new pond, a sprayground and a Columbus Blue Jackets-themed playground. The new park is scheduled to be complete by summer 2021.

The health and safety of participants and staff is the department’s first priority. Programs and services at the new facility start Monday, March 8 will still follow COVID-19 safety protocols. Winter Session at the Linden Community Center runs through April 3. Residents can view and register for activities online at bit.ly/CRPD-Register. Those without internet access can register by calling 614-645-3067 or stopping by the facility located at 1350 Briarwood Ave, Columbus, OH.
