Columbus Recreation and Parks Opens State-of-the-Art Community Center in Linden
Community-built facility features recreational
amenities and technology updates for residents of all ages.
COLUMBUS, OH–Mayor Andrew J.
Ginther and Columbus Recreation and Parks Department opened a state-of-the-art
community center in Linden to expand access to recreation. The new 55,000 square-foot
facility includes multi-purpose wellness and activity space that will bring new
life to a cherished Columbus neighborhood. The Linden Community Center is part
of Mayor Ginther’s One Linden plan, a comprehensive strategy to revitalize and
reinvigorate the Linden neighborhood.
“This new facility was built and designed by residents and
serves as a gathering place for people of all ages,” said Mayor Andrew J.
Ginther. “I am committed to expanding Columbus’ success to every person in
every neighborhood, and this opportunity center is one example of this
promise.”
About the Linden Community Center: The new center includes numerous features, including Columbus
Recreation and Parks’ first-ever elevated walking track, a fitness room, dance
studio, wellness clinic, and a demonstration/teaching kitchen complete with
video recording/streaming capability. Additional indoor and outdoor
features include:
- Full regulation-sized, spring-loaded gym floor, the first at
any Columbus Recreation and Parks site
- Basketball, tennis, hockey, pickleball and futsal courts
- Football, baseball and soccer fields
- Professional-quality music studio with video and green screen
recording capabilities
- Art and ceramics studio
- Multiple computers and a learning center
- WIC wellness clinic
- IGS solar panels
- Sprayground/splash pad
- Site amenities throughout (benches, grills, picnic tables)
- Multi-use programming and community partner spaces
The Linden Community Center and Park replace the Linden
Recreation Center, which was originally built as an outdoor shelter in 1951 and
was expanded through the years and was most recently an outdated
24,000-square-foot structure. The 20-acre Linden Park will be renovated with
sports fields, a shelterhouse, an outdoor performance area, a new pond, a
sprayground and a Columbus Blue Jackets-themed playground. The new park is
scheduled to be complete by summer 2021.
The health and safety of participants and staff is the
department’s first priority. Programs and services at the new facility start
Monday, March 8 will still follow COVID-19 safety protocols. Winter Session at
the Linden Community Center runs through April 3. Residents can view and
