Play Safe, Live Smart: Reopening Summer Youth and Adult Sports
COLUMBUS, OH – The City of Columbus continues to place priority in keeping residents safe and healthy during the public health emergency and especially the city’s youth. With guidance from Columbus Public Health and the Ohio Department of Health, the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department is moving forward with a phased reopening of summer sports leagues and tournaments for youth sports.
“Many of summer’s most memorable pastimes include getting outdoors and participating in recreational activities like youth sports,” said Mayor Andrew J. Ginther. “While it’s important all residents continue to stay safe by practicing social distancing and wearing a mask, I’m excited to connect more young people to healthy activities.”
Effective June 16, all practices and games for non-contact youth and adult sports will begin. This includes sports like baseball, fast-pitch, softball and cricket. Effective July 1, the department’s sports office will begin permitting tournaments and events for all non-contact and limited contact sports.
With many new safety guidelines and policies, it is critical sports participants contact the department’s sports office for additional information. For updates and information, visit CRPDSports.org or call 614-645-3366.
