This community park provides facilities for child and family friendly activities.
In October 2020, Columbus Recreation and Parks Department acquired 11 acres of the former Stockbridge School on South Champion Avenue, next to Stockbridge Park, on the city’s south side. This addition, purchased from Columbus City Schools, means the entire park is now 22 acres!
Columbus Recreation and Parks Department was awarded a Clean Ohio Conservation grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission to acquire the site and plant thousands of native trees on the site of the former school. In coordination with the Far South community, we are working with forestry professionals to design and plant a sustainable, resilient and beautiful forest to complement the existing amenities at Stockbridge Park and provide critical tree canopy to one of the city’s highest need communities.
To create this forest, we will soon be demolishing the old Stockbridge Elementary School building and surrounding 2 acres of pavement. We will begin planting trees at this expanded park in spring 2022.
