About Our Therapeutic Recreation Program
Therapeutic Recreation sponsors recreational activities that are modified to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities. We enhance an individual's physical, social, and lifetime recreational interests in a broad spectrum of leisure experiences. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate, including the non-disabled. Our Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists will work with participants on accommodations necessary to join in classes at our Community Centers through the use of the "Columbus Recreation and Parks Department Accommodation Request."
How to Register for our Classes
Step One: Create an account through Activenet (our online registration service) before continuing. If you already have an account please skip to "Step Two." If you are using a third party payer, please call (614) 645-5648.
Step Two: Register for camps through Activenet or register in person at the Franklin Park Adventure Center or any Columbus Community Recreation Center.
Step Three: You must download the participant waiver form through Activenet. (Fill one out for each child you are registering.)
Step Four: Mail Participant Waiver Form(s) to:

Paralympic Experience Day
The Paralympic experience is a day-long celebration of competitive Paralympic and recreational port. The goal of this event, is to show individuals with physical and visual impairments how participation in sport and living a healthy active lifestyle, can have a profoundly positive impact on their lives.

Columbus Recreation and Parks SCI Active Living Program
The Columbus Recreation and
Parks SCI Active Living Program funded in part by the Kelly Brush Foundation,
”inspire the KBF” grant, is a community-based wellness program for people
living with paralysis. This program was developed by Recreation Therapists at
Columbus Recreation and Parks and Physical Therapists from OhioHealth. Columbus
Recreation and Parks is partnering with OhioHealth, Ohio State Medical Centers,
and Chalmers P. Wylie VA Ambulatory Care Center. This program is designed to
improve your physical strength, balance, flexibility and endurance. This
program also focuses on not only the participants with paralysis but their
families. We offer support groups, and yoga to enhance overall health through
the mind and the body. This program will be adapted for all level of abilities.
