Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 15!
Join hundreds of people riding into downtown along one of eight pre-planned routes described below and mapped
(viewed best using Chrome). All routes end at Columbus Commons at 8:00AM for a celebration including free breakfast from Whole Foods Market and coffee compliments of Columbus Commons, awards, booths, and networking- You could even win a folding bicycle compliments of car2go! Mayor Michael B. Coleman will ride with the group that has the most registered riders and will present the team with a custom award designed by Columbus artist and firefighter Allison Meade.
Registration is now open - Look for routes listed as "Park & Pedal" if you would like free car parking in order to ride into downtown for the remainder of your commute.
To further celebrate bike commuters, Lucky's Market will be providing a surprise treat on Tuesday, May 12th for people near OSU Wetlands along the Olentangy Trail, the city's busiest trail with over 1 million users in 2014.
DON’T WORK DOWNTOWN?
We still want to know where you’re riding! Register your ride to work here.
NATIONAL BIKE MONTH
May is National Bike Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to giving biking a try.
More than half of the U.S. population lives within five miles of their workplace, making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get to work. With increased interest in healthy, sustainable and economic transportation options, it's not surprising that, from 2000 to 2011, the number of bicycle commuters in the U.S. grew by more than 47 percent.
Bike to Work Day is a great time to try commuting on two wheels for the first time, because no matter where you are riding from, you'll be riding with a lot of other people. Bike to Work Day shows what our streets could look like every day if we continue encouraging and investing in bicycling as transportation.
