Columbus, Ohio has a rich history that dates back more than 200 years. In 1990, a group of avid professional and amateur local historians, with a passion to share Columbus history, founded the Columbus Historical Society. The Society protects and shares the history of the broader community, with an emphasis on the core city and county environs. They also work closely with other local historical organizations to cross promote activities, education, events, preservation, programs, and publications offered throughout the community.

The Columbus Historical Society (CHS) was founded in 1990 and has become one of the premier non-profit cultural organizations in Central Ohio. Its mission is "… to educate the citizenry, to preserve historic artifacts, and to instill pride, love, and respect for ourselves, our cultures, and our ways of life."
