Working with federal authorities and cybersecurity experts, the City of Columbus continues its investigation and response to a July cybersecurity incident.
Columbus prides itself on being a diverse city that welcomes all people. In August 2020, Council created the Racial Equity Action Collaborative, an internal equity team that meets monthly. This internal task force developed project proposals to be implemented and continuously works to provide recommendations and next steps for how Council can advance anti-racism and racial equity in Columbus. Internally, monthly meeting agendas include an educational component, progress updates from the Steering Committee, and roundtable discussion sharing relevant topics of racial equity.
From this conversation evolved the need to create a strategy to engage those most impacted by racial inequities in Columbus. Although Columbus City Council has recognized racism as a public health crisis, we have yet to truly hear the stories of Black and Brown people in Columbus who have been impacted by systemic racism. The Racial Equity Action Collaborative’s mission is to support the community’s access to opportunity while empowering all residents to engage with local government. This mission marks a period of transition for Columbus City Council. As we build our capacity to lead with a racial equity lens, we know we must address any issues with an intentional focus on the outcomes of those made most marginalized by structural racism.
Columbus City Council will support the community’s access to opportunity while empowering all residents to engage with local government.
Columbus City Council is seeking an organization to lead the Racial Equity Action Collaborative. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the Racial Equity RFP for additional information.
Columbus City Council is committed to building a city that mirrors the diverse intersections of our community and works to dismantle the institutional and structural barriers to residents reaching their potential. Council, along with the community, is dedicated to transforming Columbus to be a place where race is no longer a predictor of outcomes, or barrier to opportunity.
