Working with federal authorities and cybersecurity experts, the City of Columbus continues its investigation and response to a July cybersecurity incident.
The Department of Public Utilities has approximately 300,000 water meters in Columbus and contracting communities and 17,000 Columbus power meters. The Enhanced Meter Project (EMP) will allow both the Division of Water (DOW) and the Division of Power (DOP) to collect electronic meter readings and provide expanded services for customers. This project will result in enhanced customer service, improved operational efficiency and increased meter accuracy.
Following project development and a pilot project testing phase, installations began in 2023 and will continue for the next few years, area by area. Customers will be notified by mail when contractors are beginning in their area. Contact and scheduling information will be included. For more information, please visit the project website at columbusemp.org or view the brochure(PDF, 244KB).
Financing for the EMP is being provided thanks to a below-market rate loan through the OEPA’s Water Supply Revolving Loan Account (WSRLA) Program.
The Ohio EPA has completed a Limited Environmental Review (LER) for this project. View the LER and letter(PDF, 599KB) of "Notice of Issuance of a Limited Environmental Review and Final Finding of No Significant Impact to All Interested Citizens, Organizations and Government Agencies."
