Columbus Growth Strategy

The Columbus cityscape

The Columbus Growth Strategy (CGS) is Columbus’ first citywide land use plan and will help guide the next generation of development in the city of Columbus. The planning horizon for these policies is 20 years (2025–2045), but it is anticipated that regular updates and revisions will be made to keep these policies effective and fresh. CGS replaces and supersedes Columbus Citywide Planning Policies and any affected land use related recommendations, including land use plan maps, from existing adopted area and neighborhood plans.

The CGS consists of Guiding Principles with Supporting Statements, the Columbus Land Use Plan, Land Use Policies, and Design Guidelines. It is:

  • Adopted city policy.
  • Used to guide community and city review of future rezoning and variance requests.
  • Used as the basis for City-sponsored code updates, like Zone In.
  • Used as a guide for City investment.

Please visit the Columbus Growth Strategy Document(PDF, 10MB) , or CGS Enabling Legislation(PDF, 268KB)  for more information.

CGS and Other Adopted Plans

The CGS supersedes any affected land use recommendations from previously adopted plans. In the case where the CGS does not address a site, land use recommendations from previously adopted area and neighborhood plans still apply. The Columbus Site Information Resource webmap includes both the CGS and other adopted land use recommendation for all Columbus properties.

Recommendations for non-land use matters from previously adopted area and neighborhood plans remain in place. These plans can be found at our Document Library.
