Veggie Van Rolls Out on Livingston Avenue: Free Fresh Produce for Neighbors—Sign Up Today

Columbus, Ohio — November 3rd

The Rickenbacker Woods Foundation, Livingston Area Merchants Association (LAMA), and Local Matters have teamed up to launch the Veggie Van Fresh Produce Access Program—delivering no-cost fruits and vegetables to families along the Livingston Avenue corridor at a critical time of federal SNAP benefit changes.

“Our organizations refuse to wait for systems to change,” said Mike Aaron, Executive Director of the Rickenbacker Woods Foundation. “We’re responding directly and immediately—demonstrating collaborative leadership rooted in the community’s needs.”

The Veggie Van was originally envisioned as a fresh produce distribution partnership inside local carryout markets. After the passing of beloved Livingston Market owner Jihad, planned as a founding partner, the coalition acted swiftly—guided by community feedback and the desire to honor Jihad’s legacy. “Losing Jihad was a heartbreaking setback, but this partnership honors his contributions by ensuring fresh food solutions endure,” shared Rina Craddolph, President of LAMA.

Recognized by the ComFest Committee for innovation, the Veggie Van program centers respect, dignity, and neighbor-to-neighbor support. “Livingston Avenue’s merchants witness these struggles daily. By working together, we bring real solutions and fresh food back to the heart of our neighborhood,” added Craddolph.

Yolanda Owens, CEO of Local Matters, highlighted the urgency: “The Veggie Van allows us to reach families right where they are, when they need support the most. Collective action drives real progress.”
