Get Certified to Work on City Utilities
Authorization Required Prior to Working on City Water or Sewer Lines
To get certified: Contractors must submit an application(PDF, 203KB) in person at 111 N. Front Street, Columbus, OH 43215, or via email to utilitypermits@columbus.gov.
Upon review of the application, we will email a response which will include a date and location for an in-person written test. The test is held on the third Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Be sure to submit the application at least 15 days prior to the monthly test date to get in as quickly as possible. A letter indicating the results of the test will be mailed within 10 business days of the testing date.

Authorization Required Prior to Working on City Power
To get certified: Contractors shall complete Contractor Awareness Training(PDF, 2MB) and sign the Power Contractor Training Verification Form(PDF, 120KB) as understanding and accepting the guidelines set forth, then send the signed form directly to DPUSafety@columbus.gov.
The Division of Power database will reflect only those names on the roster, and an email will be sent showing those employees as certified to work on City Power projects.
