Historic Preservation & Design Review: Boards, Commissions, & Panels
The Planning Division serves as staff to 11 separate Boards, Commissions, and Panels. To identify if a property is within a board or commission area use this map and search the address. For the advisory panels, contact either planninginfo@columbus.gov or zoninginfo@columbus.gov. See the list of Boards, Commissions, and Panels below.
Property owners, developers, and/or contractors making changes to properties within these areas may be required to obtain a Certificate of Appropriateness or Approval (COA), Letter of Recommendation, or a Record of Action (panels only). Examples of changes that may require review by a board, commission or panel include exterior alterations to a building or site, change of use, rezoning or variance, signs/graphics, landscaping, demolition, new construction, and/or lot combinations.
The links to individual board, commission, and panel pages will provide detailed information regarding when review is needed, meeting schedules, agenda, minutes, application materials, contact information, etc.

Boards, Commissions, & Panel Membership
Board, Commission, and Panel Members serve in an important role to guide Columbus' growth in a manner that preserves and enhances the unique character of each of our neighborhoods.
Members are appointed by the Mayor and serve in a volunteer capacity to review applications for Certificates of Appropriateness or Certificates of Approval for development in the city's design review areas and historic districts. Development proposals can include new construction, exterior building modifications, exterior site improvements, and exterior graphics. We value Boards, Commissions, and Panels that are diverse and reflect the diversity of the citizens that make up the population of the City of Columbus.
If you are interested in becoming a member, please send an email with "Member Inquiry" as the email subject to planninginfo@columbus.gov and include a current resume to inquire.
