Eastland for Everyone Plan launch event set for March 6

Columbus, OH – The City of Columbus Department of Neighborhoods is announcing the launch of the Eastland for Everyone Community Plan, which is a comprehensive vision and roadmap for the future growth and development of the Eastland area. The launch event will take place on Thursday, March 6, 2025, 5:30-7 p.m. at Barnett Community Center, located at 1184 Barnett Road, Columbus, OH 43227.

The Eastland for Everyone Community Plan is the culmination of extensive collaboration between the Department of Neighborhoods, its consultant team (MKSK, Neighborhood Design Center, Cohear and Development Strategies), internal and external stakeholders and over 1,800 Eastland neighbors.

The Plan outlines “8 Big Ideas” to drive positive change in the community:

  • Housing
  • Jobs and Opportunity
  • Retail, Small Business and Entrepreneurship
  • Youth and Education
  • Mobility and Access
  • Community Gathering
  • Community Identity and Pride
  • Community Well-Being and Services

"It’s finally time to present the 'Eastland for Everyone' plan to the entire community," said Department of Neighborhoods Director Kym Douglas. "This plan represents a shared vision for a vibrant and thriving Eastland, built on the input and aspirations of its residents. We’ve already seen early wins with projects like Columbus State’s Eastland Career Development, Mid-Ohio Food Collective’s Eastland Prosperity Center and

Columbus Recreation and Parks updates including Helsel and Mason Run and the Big Walnut Trail extension. The potential for catalytic opportunities is tremendous and we look forward to working alongside our community partners and neighbors to bring this vision to life."

The event will feature remarks from Director Kym Douglas, Department of Neighborhoods Eastland Neighborhood Program Specialist Noelle Britt and Area Commission representatives as well as video remarks from Mayor Andrew Ginther. Following the remarks, attendees will view a short video and presentation detailing the “8 Big Ideas” and additional community updates.

The launch will celebrate the community’s dedication and hard work, marking the transition into the Plan’s implementation phase.

The Eastland for Everyone Community Plan will be available on the Internet for public access following the meeting at: https://eastlandforeveryone.com/plan-document.
