Africa Day

Africa-Day-Banner.png

Africa Day commemorates the day when the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), the precursor to the African Union (AU), was formed on May 25th in 1963. Africa Day celebrations around the world acknowledge the progress Africans have made while reflecting upon the common challenges Africans face in a global environment.

Join Columbus City Council for our 3rd Annual Africa Day Celebration on Thursday, May 22 from 4-7 p.m. at Columbus City Hall (90 W. Broad St.). This year’s event will take place outside (on the Portman Plaza facing West Broad Street) and will feature live performances, free food for the first 100 guests, an African market for shopping and a keynote address.

Flag Walk

This year, we will be doing a Flag Walk, which will highlight all 54 countries in Africa. We welcome anyone who would like to walk with their country’s flag to do so and sign up here. One flag will be provided for each country, but participants are more than welcome to provide their own. Check in time for the Flag Walk is 4:30p and cultural attire is encouraged. Registering for the Flag Walk is a requirement to participate.
