Police Officer Salary

The Columbus Division of Police offers an attractive wage and benefit package that is competitive with private business and other major police departments.

  • 0-12 Months: $35.69 per hour ($74,226.90 annually)
  • 12 Months: $37.36 per hour ($77,709.94 annually)
  • 24 Months: $39.17 per hour ($81,468.62 annually)
  • 36 Months: $47.33 per hour ($98,446.03 annually)*
  • 48 Months: $54.67 per hour ($113,706.24 annually)

*This shall be the hiring rate for lateral entry Police Officers with five (5) years or more of service from another jurisdiction other than the City of Columbus. A lateral entry Police Officer hired at “D” Step becomes eligible and shall be advanced by the Public Safety Director to “E” Step on the date of their anniversary of one (1) year of continuous service.

Special Duty

Officers have the option of earning extra money by providing security and/or traffic control for private companies (outside of their duty hours) at the rate of $67.50/hour.
